Canter Robbery Mastermind and Accomplices Arrested, Rs 32 Lakhs Recovered

Vijayapura: The Vijayapura police have arrested five individuals involved in the violent robbery of Rs 32 lakhs from a canter, including the main accused, the canter driver Mahantesh Talwar. District Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Sonavane confirmed the arrests, highlighting the recovery of most of the stolen money and materials used in the crime.

On May 17, canter driver Mahantesh Talwar sold cotton belonging to Chandrakanta Gurupadappa Kumbar of Jevargi to Anilkumar Company in Amminabhavi, Dharwad district. After completing the transaction, Mahantesh collected Rs 32,29,364. While returning, he was intercepted near Uppaladinni Cross in Kolhara town. Mahantesh, in collusion with his accomplices, orchestrated the robbery, during which two occupants of the canter were assaulted, and the money was stolen.

The five accused arrested include Mahantesh Talwar, the main accused and the canter driver, along with Dharesh Dalwai, Shivappa Mashyala, Sunila Vaddara, and Shivananda Dalwai. SP Sonavane stated that the police acted promptly upon receiving information about the robbery. They managed to apprehend the suspects and recover Rs 31,04,364 of the stolen money, along with the materials used in the crime.

“On May 17, Mahantesh Talwar sold the cotton and collected Rs 32,29,364. The accused, who had been following him, intercepted the canter and committed the robbery near Uppaladinni Cross,” said SP Rishikesh Sonavane. “Our team has arrested all five individuals involved in this act, including the canter driver Mahantesh, who masterminded the crime. We have recovered Rs 31,04,364 and seized the materials used in the robbery.”
