In a chilling incident in Bijapur district, Maoists executed two villagers, accusing them of being police informers. The victims were hanged from a tree with leaflets accusing them of their alleged crimes. This brutal act took place on Thursday and was meant to instill fear among the local population.

The victims, identified as Mardavi Suja and Podiyam Kosa from Jappemarka village in Bhairamgarh region, were reportedly presented before a Maoist “people’s court” in the forest and sentenced to death. The execution was carried out in front of approximately 100 witnesses to maximize its terrorizing effect.

Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Yadav confirmed that police have received information about the incident and are attempting to reach the remote village located 15 km deep in the forest. The area is known for frequent Maoist attacks on security forces, making any intervention risky.

The Maoists also released photographs of the killings and warned the families and villagers against reporting the incident to authorities. This action has exacerbated the atmosphere of fear in Bijapur, which has seen increased violence and intimidation tactics from Maoists recently.

The incident follows the abduction of a student, Podiyam Hidma, who was later released. This case highlights ongoing tensions and the extreme measures taken by Maoists amid intensified security operations in the Bastar region, where over 200 Naxalites have been killed this year. The violence is a stark reminder of the persistent and escalating insurgency issues in the area.
