In a tragic incident in Bijapur, a local Congress worker, Naga Bhandari, was allegedly hacked to death by Maoists on Sunday night. The attack occurred around 11:30 pm while Bhandari was attending a local ceremony in Lingapur village. Police reported that unidentified Maoists carried out the brutal assault. Authorities reached the site shortly after receiving the information, conducted necessary inspections, and completed the inquest formalities. Bhandari’s body was returned to his family, and legal procedures are being followed.
Alongside this incident, reports suggest that three other individuals were also killed by Maoists in the Pamed region, specifically in the villages of Kanchal and Meenagatta. However, the police have yet to confirm these deaths and are still verifying the details. As of Monday evening, the Maoists have not claimed responsibility for the killings.
Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel expressed his condolences, criticizing the government for its failure to protect innocent tribals. He pointed out the contradiction between claims of eradicating Maoists under the “Sushasan Tihar” initiative and the continued killings of tribals.
The police are continuing their investigations into the deaths, working to confirm the full extent of the violence.
