Naxal attack claims nine lives, including eight security personnel
In a brutal ambush marking the start of 2025, Naxals launched a massive assault on security forces near Ambeli Nala in Kutro, Bijapur. The attackers detonated an IED, killing eight security personnel—members of the DRG and Bastar Fighters—and a civilian driver.
The blast, triggered at 2:15 pm, completely obliterated the vehicle, leaving debris and body parts scattered across the area. The impact was so intense that vehicle fragments were found 25 feet above ground, and a 10-foot crater was left on the road. Reports indicate the soldiers were returning from an operation in Abujhmad when the attack occurred.
Naxals exploit predictable routes
Investigations suggest the Naxals anticipated the route the personnel would take, having previously targeted security forces on the same path. Using a tree 200 metres away from the blast site, they connected long wires to trigger the IED, a tactic commonly employed in Bastar to monitor and attack road movements.
Leaders vow to eradicate Naxalism
Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Dev Sai paid tribute to the martyrs, denouncing the attack as an act of frustration by defeated Naxals. He pledged their sacrifices would not be forgotten, promising the imminent end of Naxalism in the region. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended condolences, reaffirming the government’s resolve to eliminate Naxalism by 2026.
Tribute to martyrs
A tribute program for the martyrs is scheduled today at Dantewada district headquarters, with CM Sai leading the homage.
