Naxal plants bomb in Bijapur: blasts and injures Jawan in during patrol
A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was wounded on Wednesday after stepping on a pressure-triggered improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. The explosion occurred around 3:30 pm near the Kodepal rivulet while the CRPF’s 196th battalion was carrying out an area domination patrol from the Chinnakodepal camp.
The blast took place as the patrol team was securing the region. A member of the Bomb Disposal Squad inadvertently triggered the IED, resulting in serious leg injuries. The injured personnel was promptly taken to the Bijapur district hospital for urgent medical care.
Security forces swiftly launched a follow-up search operation to detect and eliminate any remaining explosive threats. Naxals in the Bastar region frequently resort to pressure IEDs, placing them along forest paths and rural roads to target security teams. Sadly, civilians are also caught in the crossfire of these hidden dangers.
This incident is part of a disturbing pattern. On April 4, a pressure IED blast killed a 25-year-old man and injured another in Narayanpur. On March 30, a tribal woman lost her life in Bijapur due to a similar device. Earlier, on February 15 and in another February incident in Sukma, CRPF personnel were also injured in IED attacks.
These repeated explosions underscore the ongoing threat posed by Naxal violence in the region, prompting intensified security measures and vigilance in affected zones.
