Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Clarifies Fuel Price Hike Amidst Political Allegations

VIJAYAPURA: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed the media in Inchageri village of Vijayapura district, dismissing allegations that the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices was linked to electoral outcomes. He spoke ahead of inaugurating a new temple dedicated to Madhavananda Swamy and unveiling a statue of Sangolli Rayanna.

Responding to Leader of Opposition R Ashoka’s claims of retaliation against Congress’ electoral performance, Siddaramaiah emphasized that such decisions are unrelated to political victories or defeats in a democracy. He acknowledged the Congress’ underwhelming performance in the recent Karnataka elections but countered by highlighting BJP’s reduced seats compared to previous polls.

Siddaramaiah clarified the state’s tax structure on fuel, noting reductions made since April 2021 aimed at balancing rates with neighbouring states like Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Despite the recent hike, Karnataka’s fuel prices remain comparatively lower.

The Chief Minister reiterated that tax adjustments were not politically motivated but intended to maintain competitive pricing. He reaffirmed the Congress government’s commitment to welfare measures and dismissed claims of halting grant programs, stressing their continuation for public benefit.
