In a brutal attack, Naxalites killed two men in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Monday night, suspecting them of being police informers.
The incident occurred in Bugdicheru village under the Tarrem police station limits. Armed Naxalites forcibly entered the homes of Karam Raju (32) and Madvi Munna (27), dragged them outside, and fatally attacked them with sharp weapons. Both victims died instantly.
Authorities were alerted the following morning, and a police team was dispatched to the scene. A pamphlet left behind by the Jagargunda area Maoist committee accused the victims of providing intelligence to security forces.
Raju was a former Naxalite who had surrendered and resumed a normal life. Munna had previously faced threats and assaults from Naxalites under similar accusations. His elder brother had also been killed by insurgents in Dantewada a few years ago.
Police report that Maoists, losing ground due to intensified security operations and new security camps in their strongholds, are retaliating by targeting innocent tribal villagers. Recent months have seen multiple executions under similar pretexts.
Authorities confirmed that 68 civilians lost their lives in Naxal-related violence in Bastar last year, while security forces have eliminated 50 Naxalites in encounters so far this year.
