Three Naxalites Surrender in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh
On August 9, three Naxalites, including two with a combined reward of ₹16 lakh on their heads, surrendered to authorities in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh. The individuals have been identified as Ramesh Farsa, Laxman Potam alias Mura, and woman cadre Manki Madvi alias Sarita.
Ramesh Farsa, who had an ₹8 lakh bounty on him, was a member of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army’s Platoon Number 1, linked with the outlawed CPI (Maoist). Manki Madvi, also carrying an ₹8 lakh reward, was part of the Central Regional Command’s Platoon Number 1 under the Maoists’ South Bastar division. Laxman Potam served as the Deputy Commander of the Pusnar Militia Platoon ‘C’ Section.
The surrendering Naxalites cited their approval of the state government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy as a factor in their decision. Each was given an immediate monetary aid of ₹25,000 and will be rehabilitated according to the government’s policy.
This year, Chhattisgarh has seen 145 Naxalites surrender and 326 arrested, reflecting ongoing efforts to combat Maoist insurgency in the region.
