Tragedy in Vijayapura: Mother Allegedly Throws Four Children into Canal

In a shocking incident in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district, a 26-year-old woman, Bhagyashree Bhajantri, allegedly threw her four children into a canal near Nidagundi Taluk on Monday. Two of her daughters, Tanushree (5) and Suraksha (3), were found dead later that day, while the search continues for her 13-month-old twin sons.

The family, originally from Telagi village in Kolar district, was reportedly facing acute financial distress. According to police, Bhagyashree’s husband, Ningaraju Bhajantri, had taken a substantial loan and was under immense pressure to repay it. Disputes over dividing family property further strained the couple’s relationship.

The tragedy unfolded while the family was en route to a temple on a two-wheeler. When their vehicle ran out of fuel near the canal, Ningaraju went to fetch petrol, leaving Bhagyashree and the children by the water. Upon his return, he discovered the horrifying act. Bhagyashree also jumped into the canal but was rescued by a local fisherman.

Authorities are registering a murder case against Bhagyashree. Rescue teams continue searching for the missing twins as the community grapples with the heartbreaking incident.
