A tragic chain collision near Nidgundi town on Wednesday led to the deaths of a Border Security Force (BSF) soldier and an ambulance driver, sparking fresh concerns about highway safety.

The deceased have been identified as Mounesh Rathod, a BSF jawan hailing from Kalagi village in Muddebihal taluk, and Ritesh, an ambulance driver from Kerala. According to preliminary reports, the accident unfolded when a speeding truck struck Rathod’s motorcycle. The same vehicle then rammed into the ambulance trailing behind.

Local police have registered a case at the Nidgundi Police Station. Investigations are underway to determine the exact sequence of events and whether negligence played a role.

The collision is yet another grim reminder of the dangers faced by emergency responders and soldiers alike, even when off-duty. Locals have demanded improved signage and stricter speed monitoring in the area to prevent such recurring mishaps.
