Three individuals, including a woman and her lover, were arrested by the Harugeri police in Raibag taluk for the murder of her husband, who was drowned in the River Krishna at Athani about a year ago. The crime, initially not reported as a missing person case, was uncovered through investigative work based on a missing person report from the region.

Superintendent of Police Dr. Bheemashankar Guled informed the media that a body was discovered in the River Krishna at Athani on December 27, 2023. Despite efforts to identify the body through inquiries with police in Maharashtra, Goa, and nearby districts, no matches were found with any missing persons cases.

The breakthrough came when the Harugeri police received a tip about a missing person from Itnal village. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the missing person was Mallappa Kambar, whose wife, Danavva, had not filed a missing complaint. When questioned, Danavva provided inconsistent answers. Further inquiries revealed that Danavva had disappeared with their two children about a year and a half ago, and her father had filed a missing persons report. She later returned, blaming her husband’s harassment for her departure.

It was discovered that Mallappa had learned of his wife’s affair with her paramour, Prakash Bennali, which led to conflicts between the couple. Danavva, Bennali, and their accomplice Ramappa Madar conspired to murder Mallappa. The trio lured him to the River Krishna, where they drowned him. The body was found months later. The accused have been arrested, and further investigations are ongoing.
