At the 17th graduation ceremony of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) V K Saxena highlighted the growing influence of women in higher education, signaling a shift in both the educational and political spheres. He referred to the example of Delhi, where both the Chief Minister and the Leader of Opposition are women, as a symbol of this transformation.
Saxena noted that the increasing number of women receiving degrees, particularly PhDs, is a clear reflection of changing educational trends. “Gone are the days when instructors were the only ones providing lessons. Now, time itself imparts knowledge,” he said, emphasizing the evolving role of education. He also pointed out that the larger proportion of women graduating from the ceremony signifies the progressive landscape.
The ceremony awarded a total of 24,446 degrees, including 3,112 postgraduate, 21,222 undergraduate, and over 100 doctoral degrees. Saxena’s comments were particularly significant given Delhi’s political leadership, where a woman holds the offices of both Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition.
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta addressed the graduates, urging them to look beyond personal success and contribute to the nation’s progress. Education Minister Ashish Sood stressed the importance of social responsibility among the youth, encouraging them to not just question but also provide solutions.
Vice-Chancellor Mahesh Verma praised the university’s growth, describing it as a movement of empowerment and inspiration.
