Yadgiri: A disturbing incident has come to light in a village in Hunsagi taluk, where a 15-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped by an upper-caste youth. The accused, who is currently in judicial custody, had promised to marry the girl but later refused, citing her caste.
The victim’s parents, who were working as laborers in a distant town, returned to find their daughter five months pregnant. The girl had kept the incident hidden due to threats from the accused.
Following the registration of a POCSO case on August 12, the upper-caste villagers have allegedly boycotted the Dalit families, refusing to sell groceries to them.
The victim’s father complained that despite registering a case, they have been denied essential supplies for two days.
District Superintendent of Police G. Sangeeta held a peace meeting in the village on Friday, stating that no boycott incident was found, but rather a misunderstanding between the two communities.
Leader of the Opposition in the Vidhan Parishad, Chhalavadi Narayanaswamy, condemned the incident, criticizing the district administration minister for not visiting the village. He announced a personal visit to the village on September 17.
