Yadgir/Koppal: A team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrived in Yadgir on Sunday to delve into the suspicious death of Police Sub-Inspector Parashuram. This investigation has become a focal point for the Opposition BJP to critique the Siddaramaiah government, further intensifying the political discourse in Karnataka.
Opposition Criticises Government’s Response
Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka visited the native village of the deceased officer to offer his condolences to the grieving family. During his visit, Ashoka expressed scepticism about the CID probe, stating that the BJP lacks confidence in such investigations. He accused the ruling Congress of ordering the CID probe hastily in an attempt to shield its legislator, Channareddy Patil Tunnur, who is embroiled in the case. Tunnur and his son, Pampanagounda, who face charges related to Parashuram’s death, are currently missing.
CID Investigation Underway
According to sources, the CID team collected extensive information as part of their investigation. They gathered details on Parashuram’s transfers, previous postings, a copy of the FIR, and other relevant documents. The team also took several files and pen drives to the circuit house for further examination.
Political Fallout
Ashoka has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into Parashuram’s death, arguing that past CID investigations have failed to inspire confidence. He criticised the state government and the police department’s response to the officer’s death, highlighting perceived inadequacies in handling the case.
Ashoka also highlighted discrepancies related to Parashuram’s transfers. He pointed out that under the previous government, a rule mandated a minimum tenure of two years for police officers before they could be transferred. However, the Congress government reportedly reduced this period to one year. Ashoka questioned why Parashuram was transferred after only seven months, suggesting possible political interference.
Call for Accountability
The Leader of the Opposition demanded immediate action, including the arrest of the Yadgir MLA and his son, and disciplinary measures against the officer responsible for Parashuram’s transfer. Ashoka expressed deep concern over the implications of the officer’s death, accusing the MLA of discriminatory remarks and demanding justice for Parashuram’s family.
