Live wires spark panic in Yadgir as storm snaps power lines, injures two
A sudden storm accompanied by fierce winds created chaos in Karnataka’s Yadgir district on Monday evening after power lines snapped and sparked a fire scare near the Mallikarjuna Temple.
The panic began when an old transformer pole collapsed, leading to a short circuit. Sparks and flames surged through connected lines, affecting homes across the village. Two residents sustained electric shock injuries and were quickly rushed to a hospital. Both are now reported to be stable.
Over 100 households reported damaged appliances, including TVs, refrigerators, and fans. Eyewitnesses described seeing fire-like sparks racing along electric cables outside their homes, causing fear and confusion.
Though most people were indoors at the time, averting a bigger disaster, the sound of the sparking wires startled cattle in nearby sheds. Visuals from the scene captured bright flashes leaping from wire to wire in dramatic fashion.
Villagers criticized the outdated electrical infrastructure, claiming that some power lines are more than four decades old. They are now urging Gescom (Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company) to urgently inspect and replace worn-out systems.
Thanks to quick action by local residents, a major tragedy was averted.
