Yadgir Villages Seek Merger with Telangana Over Land Record Issues
YADGIR / KALABURAGI: Residents of Shivapura and Gonal villages in Wadagera taluk, Yadgir district, have taken a drastic step, urging the state government to merge their villages with neighboring Telangana. Their appeal comes in response to persistent unresolved issues concerning land deeds (pahanis).
The villagers submitted a memorandum to Yadgir Deputy Commissioner Sushila, detailing their frustration. Despite submitting 825 applications over the past 65 years, their land record problems remain unresolved. They claim that land records for over 10,000 acres belonging to more than 850 farmers in these villages are still pending.
In contrast, farmers in Krishna village of Telangana, located just a few kilometers away, have not faced similar issues with their land records. The villagers have also demanded a change in the administrative oversight, specifically requesting the replacement of the assistant commissioner of Yadgir, who is currently the special officer for their villages, with the tahsildar of Wadagera.
Adding to the urgency, the villagers have threatened self-harm, stating that they will consume poison if their land record issues are not addressed promptly by the district administration.
The situation highlights a growing frustration among the villagers, who see merging with Telangana as a potential solution to their long-standing land record challenges.
