A wave of concern has swept across the city after disturbing videos surfaced online showing youths in a trance-like state near Bagalur, raising fears of the spread of so-called “zombie drugs”.
Viral videos trigger panic
The clips, reportedly filmed near Bagalur and areas around Nitte College, show individuals appearing motionless and disoriented. Such symptoms have been linked globally to substances like Xylazine, a powerful sedative known for its dangerous effects.
The visuals have sparked intense discussion on social media, with many residents expressing concern about the safety of students and young people.
Police probe underway
The Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) is currently investigating whether such synthetic substances have entered the local drug network.
This comes shortly after officials seized narcotics worth over ₹11 crore in the Bagalur region, including LSD and hydro ganja, indicating the presence of an active drug supply chain.
No confirmation yet on ‘zombie drug’
Authorities have not yet confirmed the presence of Xylazine or similar substances in Bengaluru. However, the viral footage has prompted closer scrutiny and increased vigilance.
Police sources said investigations are ongoing to determine the authenticity of the videos and the nature of substances involved.
Rising concern for youth safety
The incident has reignited concerns over drug abuse in and around educational institutions. Experts warn that the emergence of synthetic drug mixtures could pose a serious threat to public health.
Call for community vigilance
Officials have urged citizens to remain alert and report suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies. Parents, colleges, and local communities are being encouraged to work together to prevent drug misuse.
As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to intensify surveillance in sensitive areas to curb the spread of narcotics.
