Key suspect in Fazil murder case Suhas Shetty killed in Mangaluru sword attack
Mangaluru: Suhas Shetty, a known rowdy sheeter and a prime accused in the 2022 Fazil murder case, was killed in a shocking public attack on Wednesday evening near Kinnipadavu in Bajpe, on the outskirts of Mangaluru. The daylight murder has reignited tensions in the region and raised questions about law and order enforcement.
Attacked in public with swords
Eyewitnesses report that Shetty was attacked by a gang wielding Talwars (swords) at approximately 8:30 PM. The assailants struck him multiple times before fleeing the scene. Severely injured, Shetty was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
A disturbing video of the attack began circulating on social media platforms soon after the incident, further intensifying public alarm. The Bajpe police have registered a case and launched a high-level investigation into what appears to be a well-planned murder.
History of crime and controversial links
Suhas Shetty had gained notoriety as a prime accused in the July 28, 2022, murder of Fazil in Surathkal, a case that had drawn national attention. Police sources confirmed that Shetty had multiple criminal cases, including those related to murder and attempted murder.
Before becoming entangled in criminal activity, he was said to have been associated with the Bajrang Dal and was active in cow protection campaigns in the region. His affiliations and the high-profile nature of his past crimes have led to speculation that the attack may be linked to ongoing gang rivalries or a revenge plot.
Police investigate motives and affiliations
Authorities are currently probing multiple angles, including possible political or communal motivations behind the killing. Given Shetty’s checkered past and the nature of the attack, police are not ruling out the possibility of retaliation linked to the Fazil murder case or rival criminal networks.
Senior police officials have visited the scene, and CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify the attackers. The Bajpe Police Station has taken charge of the case, and additional security measures have been deployed in the area to prevent any escalation.
