
Kodagu braces for monsoon fury; over 10,000 residents at risk

With above-average rainfall forecast for Kodagu this monsoon, the district administration has identified 102 zones as prone to landslides and floods, potentially impacting 10,922 people. In response, officials have opened 90 relief centres and arranged temporary shelters for 2,953 families living in high-risk areas.
Among the vulnerable localities are 44 residential zones in Madikeri city, 30 in Kushalnagar, 18 in Virajpet, and 10 in Somwarpet. Rescue teams have begun preparedness efforts, including a mock drill held at the Harangi reservoir on Thursday.
The administration continues to coordinate safety and evacuation plans as part of its monsoon readiness.
