Kodagu Officials Dismiss Rumors of Tremors; Locals Remain Uncertain
Government officials in Kodagu district have refuted reports and rumors of minor tremors allegedly felt in parts of the district on Friday. Social media messages claimed that tremors were experienced early Friday morning in areas like Basavathoor, Hebbale, Hakke, and Huluse of Kushalnagar, causing alarm among residents. Some individuals also reported hearing a loud sound around 6:35 a.m., followed by a two-second tremor, according to Deccan Herald.
However, while some locals acknowledged hearing a loud noise, they denied feeling any tremors. This discrepancy has added to the confusion surrounding the incident.
Tahsildar Kiran Gauraiah addressed the concerns, stating that no official complaints were received from residents about tremors. He also mentioned that the Kodagu District Disaster Management Authority was not notified by locals about any seismic activity.
Notably, Hebbale and Basavanthoor, two areas where tremor reports were most prevalent, are located just 15 km from the Harangi dam, raising concerns about potential impacts on the region.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, but as of now, they have dismissed the rumors, urging residents to remain calm.
