Tourists are pouring into Kodagu as the district readies itself for the festive Christmas and New Year season. Homestays and hotels are nearly fully booked with tourists, especially for late December, with Kodagu emerging as a top choice for New Year celebrations.
Monti Ganesh, president of the Kodagu Homestay Owners’ Association, noted a slow November but reported a surge in December bookings. “Homestays are preparing extensively for the New Year rush,” she said. Kundyolanda Dinesh Cariappa, president of Kodagu Resorts and Homestay Owners’ Association, revealed that hotels are also fully booked for year-end festivities. The association is prioritizing cleanliness and plans to curb plastic use by offering drinking water in glass bottles.
Deputy Director of Tourism Anitha Bhaskar shared that Kodagu has already attracted 45 lakh visitors this year, with numbers expected to spike further by December-end. The tourism department is working to maintain cleanliness at major attractions and ensure visitors receive adequate assistance.
Kodagu has around 2,500 registered homestays, and the hospitality sector is pulling out all the stops to cater to the influx. Nagendra Prasad, president of the Kodagu Chamber of Commerce, confirmed the high tourist footfall, which is expected to sustain through the New Year. Resorts are planning indoor celebrations to keep the festive spirit alive.
