MADIKERI: In a dramatic turn of events, Ankur Rana, a murder suspect, has evaded capture from the Kodagu police after being arrested in Uttar Pradesh. Rana, originally from Haryana, was apprehended during a police operation that garnered praise for swiftly solving an interstate murder case.

The investigation revolved around the murder of businessman Ramesh Kumar (45), whose charred remains were discovered in an estate in Suntikoppa, Kodagu. Following numerous leads, the Kodagu police arrested the victim’s second wife, Niharika, along with her associates, Ankur Rana and Nikhil Maireddy. While Niharika and Nikhil were apprehended in Bengaluru, Ankur’s arrest was notably cinematic, occurring in Uttar Pradesh.

On October 31, while the Kodagu police, accompanied by the three suspects, conducted a spot mahazar in Hyderabad, Ankur managed to escape. After spending the night in a private hotel, he unlocked his handcuffs and slipped out of the hotel room’s window on the third floor, reportedly taking a police communication device with him.

The police have launched extensive search operations to recapture Ankur, and SP K Ramarajan remains optimistic about apprehending him soon.
