A herd of wild elephants created panic in Rudraguppe village (No. 1), Virajpet, by walking fearlessly along local roads during the day, especially near the Atrangad family’s house. The elephants, reportedly from nearby B. Shettigeri, have camped in coffee estates, causing extensive damage to coffee plants, banana, and coconut trees.
Villagers are alarmed by the frequent elephant movement and the mounting losses to their plantations. Forest officials are yet to respond effectively.
