Kolar: On Tuesday, Justice Dr. HN Nagamohan Das continued his assessment of the ongoing caste survey by visiting several localities in Kolar. Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Dr. MR Ravi and top officials, the team inspected homes in Ambedkar Nagar, Gandhinagar, Tamaka, and Gaddekannur.

Addressing the media, Justice Das emphasized the need for clearly recording the names of Scheduled Communities. “Just like we rename cities, states, or circles, community names that carry historical stigma should also be updated,” he said. He added that communities now have the option to voluntarily correct or update their caste names, which would help in identifying those facing social, educational, and economic disadvantage.

Rakesh Kumar, Commissioner of the Social Welfare Department, shared that the survey includes 42 key questions focused on the socio-economic status of Scheduled Castes. Approved by the commission, the survey aims to collect data at the grassroots level.

The first phase of the door-to-door survey will conclude on May 17. Following this, special enrollment camps will be held in gram panchayats from May 19 to 21, targeting daily wage earners and migrant workers. Individuals can register using identification like Aadhaar and ration cards.

In phase three, people will have the option to input their data online using their Aadhaar-linked RD number and caste certificate. In the previous 2011 census, about 43% listed their caste as Adi Karnataka, Adi Dravida, or Adi Andhra. A mobile app has now been developed to allow clear entry of sub-caste details.
