At least four people, including a two-year-old child, tragically lost their lives in a road accident in Kolar district, Karnataka, on Monday morning. Four others were injured in the crash, which took place on the newly inaugurated Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway.

The victims were identified as 45-year-old Mahesh, two-year-old Udvita, and 60-year-old Ratnamma, who were traveling in an Innova car. The identity of the deceased motorcycle rider is still unknown. The injured—Sushmita, Viruta, Sujata, and Sunil—were quickly rushed to a private hospital in Kolar for medical attention.

Police reports revealed that the victims were from Kammasandra village near KGF in Kolar district. They were returning home from Bengaluru when their vehicle collided with a bike near Kuppanahalli in Bangarapet taluk. The force of the impact resulted in the immediate deaths of all four car occupants. Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding may have been a contributing factor to the accident.

This heartbreaking incident adds to a disturbing pattern of fatal crashes in Karnataka in recent weeks. On Saturday, a similar tragedy occurred in Chamarajanagar district, where five devotees lost their lives in a head-on collision with a truck near Chikkindewadi village. The vehicle, which was carrying pilgrims to the Male Mahadeshwara Hills, overturned multiple times, killing all passengers. Police suspect overspeeding was involved there too.

Earlier this year, another fatal crash on February 6 in Yadgir district claimed the lives of five family members, including three children, when a KKSRTC bus rammed their bike. In yet another incident on January 22, 14 people, including three students, lost their lives in two separate accidents in Karwar and Raichur districts.

The rising number of fatal accidents across the state underscores the urgent need for more stringent traffic regulations and enhanced road safety measures to prevent further tragedies.
