Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) recently organized its 60th singing competition at Udupi Diocese, marking a significant event in the region’s cultural calendar. The competition, held at Ave Maria Hall, Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi, saw enthusiastic participation across various age groups and categories.

Fr Charles Menezes, parish priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi, inaugurated the event and provided encouragement to the participants. Renowned musicians Jude Fernandes and Sylvia Fernandes from Mangaluru served as judges, evaluating performances that ranged from solo acts to duets and mixed groups.

A total of 39 entries across 12 categories showcased the vibrant singing talents of 65 participants. The competition not only celebrated musical prowess but also highlighted community support and cultural enrichment.

Liston D’Souza, vice-president of KNS, expressed gratitude to the Diocese of Udupi and Fr Charles Menezes for their continued support in organizing the event. Special recognition was accorded to Fr Charles Menezes for his pivotal role in making the competition a success over the past three years.

The competition’s success sets the stage for the upcoming rounds, scheduled to take place at Don Bosco Hall, Mangaluru, where finalists from Udupi will compete in the second round on August 25. The event promises to continue showcasing exceptional Konkani singing talent.
