In a heartwarming act of compassion, a man donated his pet dog’s blood to save another dog in critical condition. The recipient was a 9-year-old Labrador, owned by an anonymous official, who urgently needed a blood transfusion. Dr. G Chandrasekhar, a veterinarian at a local polyclinic in Koppal, reviewed the database for suitable donors and identified three local dogs with compatible blood types.
After contacting the owners, Dr. Chandrasekhar took blood samples from the dogs for analysis. The blood of Bhairav, a 3-year-old Dobermann, was found to be a perfect match. Dr. Basavaraj Pujar, Bhairav’s owner and a lecturer, was informed of the situation and persuaded to allow his dog to donate blood.
Following medical protocols, 350ml of blood was collected from Bhairav and transfused to the ailing Labrador. The procedure took about 15 minutes, and the Labrador was soon discharged in stable condition. Dr. Chandrasekhar noted that while such transfusions are routine at the polyclinic, raising awareness among pet owners about the importance of blood donation for pets would be highly beneficial.
This act of kindness not only saved a life but also highlighted the spirit of community and care among pet owners.
