Koppal: A heart-wrenching case has emerged at Koppal district hospital, echoing recent concerns raised by Karnataka’s Medical Education Minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil regarding elderly parents being deserted after transferring their properties to children.

Ramanjeneyalu, a 72-year-old man, has been staying at the hospital since May last year. Suffering from severe back pain, he is unable to walk. Despite having sons and brothers, no one has returned to take him home. Shockingly, he owns five houses and survives on rental income, yet remains abandoned.

Moved by his situation, the hospital staff have stepped up, treating him with care and affection, often referring to him as their grandfather. Many visitors commend their compassionate efforts.

The staff revealed that Ramanjeneyalu’s sons and brother admitted him after he developed a back injury while working at home. They arranged for his hospitalisation using a 108 ambulance and left without returning.

A few months ago, hospital employees collected funds to send him back to his residence in Hosapete. However, he soon returned, stating he was deceived and no longer wished to go back to his family.

His story reflects a larger issue, with many elderly individuals reportedly being neglected by their families after being dispossessed of their assets.
