A 35-year-old man was violently killed inside a bakery in Karnataka’s Koppal district, allegedly due to a long-standing feud and a property disagreement, police revealed on Monday.

The crime took place on May 31 in Tavaragera town, located in Kushtagi taluk. The shocking act was caught on a CCTV camera, according to authorities.

Police have taken seven suspects into custody and are actively pursuing three more individuals who remain at large.

The disturbing video, now widely circulated on social media, shows Chanappa Harijan frantically screaming and rushing into the bakery while being chased by a group. Inside, he was reportedly assaulted and hacked with sharp weapons by several assailants.

In addition to being slashed, he was struck on the head with a heavy wooden stick. Following the attack, the perpetrators immediately fled the scene.

Superintendent of Police L.R. Arasiddi confirmed that of the ten people allegedly involved, seven have been arrested so far — including four directly responsible for the assault. The others, believed to have provoked the attackers, are still on the run.

During questioning, the detained individuals confessed that a dispute dating back to the 2022 town panchayat elections had escalated tensions. Initial findings suggest a blend of political rivalry and family property conflict may have triggered the murder.

Police said they are examining all possible motives and connections as part of a wider investigation.
