As of August 6, Bangladesh has surpassed 300 dengue-related deaths and reported nearly 64,000 cases this year. In the last 24 hours, there have been 10 additional deaths and 2,495 new dengue infections, bringing the death toll to 303 and the total number of cases to 63,968, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Last month, the country experienced a significant surge in dengue cases, with 43,854 new infections and 204 deaths, as reported by Xinhua news agency, citing the DGHS. The period from June to September is the monsoon season in Bangladesh, known for an increased risk of dengue fever and other mosquito-borne diseases. As a high-risk nation, the country remains susceptible to such outbreaks during this time.
