A space to decorate your emotions: Journaling workshop debuts in Thiruvananthapuram
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM — In a time when real conversations feel rare, journaling is making a quiet comeback as a space for unfiltered expression. On June 29, the city will host its first-ever mindful journaling workshop, led by Meera Nazer, a lawyer, economist, and cancer survivor who has pioneered expressive journaling sessions across Kerala and Bengaluru.
Titled more like an “informed gossip session” than a mental health workshop, the three-hour event (3 pm to 6 pm) at The Reading Room invites participants to doodle, paste, scribble, and explore their feelings — no artistic skills required.
“Journaling kept me sane during the darkest tunnel of my life,” shares Meera, who began leading workshops after her breast cancer diagnosis in 2023. “People assumed I would become fragile, but I was angry — journaling helped me channel that honestly.”
The session is open to anyone 15 and older. Meera emphasizes that this is about reclaiming art and honesty, not perfection. “Everyone’s emotions deserve space. Whether it’s a chocolate wrapper or a sketch, it all matters.”
In addition, Meera will host The Feminist Reading Circle on June 28, also at The Reading Room.
