In Kendrapara, Odisha, two students have turned their financial struggles into a story of determination and hope. Arpita Priyadarshini Das, a postgraduate Political Science student, and her cousin, Rajaram Sahu, a first-year Commerce student, juggle academics and running a tea stall to support their education.
Arpita’s father works at a Hyderabad hotel, leaving her mother to manage the household and the education of three children. Rajaram’s family faces a similar strain, with income from his father’s farming proving inadequate. Unable to rely solely on their families, the duo launched the “Sonu-Loni Tea Stall” near Kendrapara Autonomous College, selling tea and refreshments after classes.
The modest earnings help them cover mess fees and personal expenses, alleviating some pressure on their families. Their effort isn’t about profit but survival—a lifeline to continue their education.
This touching tale sheds light on the systemic financial challenges faced by students in India. Arpita and Rajaram’s initiative exemplifies resilience and underscores the sacrifices many make to pursue higher education. Their story is a powerful reminder of the importance of accessible education and the unwavering spirit of those determined to succeed despite hardships.
