In a disturbing incident reported in Mumbai, a man has been charged with sexually exploiting a woman doctor he met on a dating platform, coercing her into an abortion, and threatening to leak her private photos online, a police official confirmed on Friday.
The 28-year-old woman, employed at a hospital in Andheri, met the 27-year-old accused, a resident of Dongri, through a dating app in 2023. According to her complaint, the two had consensual relations, during which the accused secretly took intimate photos of her.
Things took a dark turn earlier this year when, in February, he allegedly forced her to terminate a pregnancy. Following the incident, he began distancing himself from her. The woman later discovered that he had gotten engaged to another person, realizing she had been deceived under the false promise of marriage.
Shocked and betrayed, she approached the MIDC police and registered an FIR on Thursday. So far, no arrest has been made in the case.
The accused has been booked under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those dealing with non-consensual abortion, criminal intimidation, and exploitation. Officials stated that investigations are ongoing.
