
Mandya: Two tragic road accidents claim five lives
Two separate road accidents in Mandya district yesterday led to the deaths of five individuals, including three engineering students and a woman with her daughter. Two others suffered serious injuries.
Accident 1: Malavalli
Three engineering students from Bangalore Institute of Technology (BIT) — Pranav (22), Adarsh (23), and Akarsh (22), all from Chitradurga district — lost their lives when a truck collided with their car near Nagegowdana Doddi Gate in Malavalli taluk. A fourth student, Hrithik, sustained severe injuries and is undergoing treatment at a Government Hospital. The group was en route to Talakad when the tragedy occurred. Local police officials conducted a mahazar and have registered a case at Mandya Rural Police Station.
Accident 2: Srirangapatna
In a second accident near Mahadeshwarapura village, a speeding truck carrying onions hit a scooter, killing Shilpashree (34) and Sandhya (17) on the spot. Shilpashree’s mother, Shylaja, sustained critical injuries and is hospitalized in Mysuru. The victims were traveling to Pandavapura when the incident occurred. Sandhya, a 2nd PUC student, was ferrying her mother and grandmother to catch a bus to Tirupati.
Former Minister C.S. Puttaraju and MLA Darshan Puttannaiah visited the grieving families. Separate cases have been registered at Mandya Rural and Melukote Police Stations.
