Family of three consume poison, jump into canal in Mandya

In a heartbreaking incident, three members of a family in Mandya ended their lives by consuming poison and jumping into the Visvesvaraya Canal at Chandgal village on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Mastappa (65), his wife Ratnamma (45), and their daughter Lakshmi (14). Mastappa, an autorickshaw driver, and his wife’s bodies were recovered, while search operations are ongoing for Lakshmi.

According to police, farmers witnessed the family leaping into the canal and rushed to save them. Despite their efforts, only two bodies could be retrieved with the help of divers. Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the tragic decision.
