Minister for Agriculture N. Chaluvarayaswamy announced that the Karnataka government has invested more than ₹10,000 crore in Mandya district over the past two and a half years, reaffirming its commitment to rural progress, agricultural growth, and citizen welfare. He made the remarks while addressing a Janspandana programme organised by the District Administration and District Panchayat.
Panch Guarantee Schemes gain national recognition
The minister said the Panch Guarantee Schemes—initially criticised by some quarters—are now being acknowledged at the national level for their impact and reach. Under these schemes, each taluk receives ₹250 crore annually, enabling targeted development across rural Karnataka.
He added that the government will continue implementing the schemes in the coming years and remains committed to them in the next elections.
Agriculture support reaches thousands of beneficiaries
Highlighting the district’s progress, the minister shared key achievements:
- Since April this year, 520 beneficiaries in Koppa Hobli have received ₹1.5 crore under agricultural support programmes.
- Across Mandya, 49,330 farmers have been supported through various schemes amounting to ₹23.90 crore, with some beneficiaries receiving subsidies of up to ₹50 lakh.
The government has also taken steps to strengthen agricultural administration by creating 1,300 new Pauti accounts, updating 5,800 existing accounts, completing 150 Podi registrations, scanning 18,310 revenue records, and resolving 33,000 pending cases.
The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to research and innovation, noting the establishment of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya, and the introduction of new rice varieties adapted to local conditions. He reaffirmed that procurement of rice and ragi under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme would continue without interruption.
Major infrastructure and industrial investments
Koppa Hobli alone has received ₹300–400 crore for infrastructure development. The government has sanctioned ₹45 lakh for the construction of a new administrative office.
A key highlight is the revival of the iconic MySugar Sugar Factory, with the government allocating ₹50 crore to stabilise operations and support sugarcane farmers in the region.
Women’s empowerment through DBT schemes
Over four lakh women in Mandya district have benefited from major welfare schemes, including:
- Gruha Lakshmi
- Shakti (free bus travel)
- Gruha Jyothi (free electricity)
- Annabhagya
- Yuvanidhi
These schemes, delivered via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), aim to promote financial stability, mobility, food security, and youth support.
Development projects inaugurated
During the event, Minister Chaluvarayaswamy and senior officials inaugurated several development projects and distributed official documents to beneficiaries. He emphasised that the government remains committed to economic empowerment, agricultural advancement, and holistic development of Mandya district.
