Mandya: Following the horrific gang rape case in Hampi, including an Israeli tourist, Mandya police have intensified security efforts to protect visitors.

A major step includes mandating high-quality CCTV cameras at all tourist sites. Authorities also plan to crack down on unregistered homestays, ensuring compliance with legal norms. Superintendent of Police Mallikarjuna Baladandi stressed the importance of strict surveillance and visitor documentation. “CCTV installation is now compulsory at tourist locations. Proper records must be maintained, including tourist IDs and C-forms for foreign visitors, which must be reported to the local police station,” he stated.

Mandya, home to attractions like KRS, Balmuri, Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Melukote, and Shivanasamudra Falls, has witnessed an increase in police patrols. Officials are also ensuring homestays follow safety protocols.

Deputy Tourism Director Raghavendra HB confirmed that official notices would be sent to hotels and homestays, detailing safety mandates. A meeting with homestay owners will be organized to ensure compliance. “Tourist safety, especially for foreign nationals, is our top priority,” he added.

Authorities believe these measures will strengthen visitor security and restore trust in Mandya’s tourism sector.
