Mandya: A shocking betrayal has unfolded in Mandya, where a mother-daughter duo, identified as Girijamma and her daughter Divya, reportedly fled after defrauding several neighbors of crores of rupees. Residing in Hosahalli’s 5th Cross, the pair built trust among local residents before disappearing overnight, leaving many families in dire financial straits.

Girijamma and Divya had been part of the Hosahalli community for some time, developing close relationships with their neighbors. However, they allegedly exploited this trust by taking loans in the names of their acquaintances through various Women Empowerment Associations, Self Help Groups, and microfinance institutions. They stand accused of absconding without repaying these loans, which has caused significant distress for those who acted as guarantors.

Residents claim that the duo defrauded them of over a crore of rupees, primarily targeting small business owners, local traders, and daily wage earners—families already struggling to make ends meet. By using their victims’ identities, they secured large sums from multiple financial institutions. After amassing the money, they vanished into the night, leaving their neighbors to grapple with mounting debts.

In a desperate search for Girijamma and Divya, locals have resorted to social media and public spaces, putting up flex banners with their photos, appealing for any information that could aid in their capture. The fallout from this scam has been devastating, affecting over 50 families, many of whom now face pressure from microfinance companies and associations, with some pushed to the brink of poverty.

Victims have filed complaints at the Mandya East Police Station, urging law enforcement to intensify the search for the absconding duo. Authorities have assured that they are pursuing all leads in the investigation. The community is rife with anger and frustration, feeling deceived by individuals they once trusted. The fraud has sparked widespread outrage, leading to calls for justice. Local authorities have launched a manhunt for Girijamma and Divya, appealing for public assistance in locating them. As the investigation unfolds, the residents of Mandya hope for a swift resolution and recovery of their lost money.
