Former Mandya MP Sumalatha has strongly opposed the Karnataka government’s decision to construct an amusement park at the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam, calling it an irresponsible and culturally insensitive move. Taking to social media, she issued a stern warning, urging the government to withdraw the plan immediately.

Sumalatha aligned herself with the sentiments of the people of Mandya and local farmers’ associations, who have vocally protested the proposed project. “KRS is not just a dam — it represents our heritage, our culture, and the lifeline of Mandya,” she stated. She emphasized the emotional and historical significance the dam holds for the region and condemned the government’s persistence in pushing forward with the project despite widespread public opposition.

Calling the project a “wasteful expenditure,” Sumalatha said the focus should instead be on meaningful development of Mandya. She criticized the lack of sensitivity toward the ecological and cultural value of KRS and demanded that the sanctity and environmental integrity of the area be preserved.

In her post, she reiterated that the self-respecting citizens of Mandya would not allow any initiative that threatens the existence or legacy of Kannambadi Katte (another name for KRS). The warning, shared widely online, has gained significant traction and intensified calls for the government to reconsider the controversial amusement park plan.
