Mangaluru: Following close on its heels, after Bajrang Dal activists chased after milk-van with the knowledge of transporting beef, another case erupts in the district.

Five days after the first attack, Bajrang Dal activists halted a fish truck on Sunday, 18 October near Kankanady Pumpwell in the City, and seized the beef inside. The mini-truck meant for hauling fish was found carrying nearly two tonnes of beef illegally, as per the activists. After stopping the truck, the activists handed over the truck and the driver to Kankanady Police Station.

According to the activists, they chased the truck from Kannur near Adyar, in the outskirts of Mangaluru, and managed to successfully stop it near Kankanady Pumpwell. Two persons have been arrested on these accounts.

Before this incident, Bajrang Dal activists, in the early morning hours of 13 October, with the foreknowledge that beef was being illegally transported in a milk van, chased the van and stopped it near the District Wenlock Hospital in the City. They handed over the vehicle along with the driver at Bunder Police Station.

It should also be noted that a few days ago, Sharan Pumpwell–the Vishwa Hindu Parishad Regional secretary–during a press meet gave a stern warning to the District Administration authorities that if they don’t take quick action against the increasing illegal cattle trafficking, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal will start protesting on the streets until such illegal activities are completely stopped.

“We also warn that the District Administration would be held liable for any untoward incidents which may occur during the protests. Despite increasing illegal cow trafficking that is going on, the district administration officials and also the police have turned a blind eye towards it”, said Sharan,”. But the illegal supply of beef doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.
