Bantwal: Tahsildar Rashmi S R met veteran freedom fighter Shyamaraya Achar (95), at his residence “Shilpa Nivas” in Kalladka on Tuesday, January 8 night, and enquired about his health.

It can be recalled that on August 14, 2019, Shyamaraya Achar, when he was travelling in a bus from Shivamogga to B C Road, Mangaluru to attend the Independence Day programme on August 15, fell from the bus as he was alighting when it halted for sometime in the Agumbe Ghat and hurt his back badly. He had to undergo surgery as a result of the incident.

The surgery was performed a week ago and currently, he is recuperating at his daughter’s residence in Kalladka.

Tears started welling up in his eyes when he saw Tahsildar Rashmi’s concern. He appreciated her and said that officers like her are examples for all other young officers.

Speaking to the media, Tahsildar Rashmi said, “His smiling face, despite the major surgery and pain at the age of 95, is an inspiration to us all. I want to see him attend the Republic Day programme on January 26 at the Taluk Office in B C Road.”
