Udupi: In a surprise raid, Lokayukta police apprehended Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Ganapati Nayak on Wednesday while accepting a bribe of ₹2,000.
As per police reports, the incident stemmed from a case involving alleged illegal sand transportation. The complainant was moving sand from Mulki to Udupi using a vehicle owned by an acquaintance. Officials from Udupi Town police intercepted the vehicle near Nittur and registered a case against it.
To proceed with the release of the seized vehicle, the complainant, holding a general power of attorney (GPA), filed a petition before the Principal Civil and JMFC Court in Udupi. During this process, the APP reportedly demanded ₹2,000 as a bribe for filing necessary objections related to the vehicle release.
Refusing to give in to corruption, the complainant approached the Udupi Lokayukta police and filed a formal complaint. Following a planned operation, the Lokayukta team successfully caught the APP red-handed while accepting the bribe.
Ganapati Nayak was immediately detained, and further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
