Mangaluru: District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao emphasized the city’s potential to become a cultural and sports hub during the curtain-raiser for the Mangalore Beach Festival on Monday. Organized by the Tapasya Foundation, the event highlighted Mangaluru’s rich resources—its beaches, vibrant talent, and sports enthusiasm. The minister commended the foundation for hosting a triathlon and for their commendable work in establishing a hospice and palliative care centre.
He expressed hope that the triathlon could grow into a marquee event, drawing participants nationwide. “Mangaluru is a city of cultural, educational, and social excellence. Its diversity, with five to six spoken languages, makes it a unique melting pot,” he remarked, pledging support from various departments to elevate the festival.
Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta lauded the triathlon as a platform to showcase Mangaluru and attract visitors while supporting a worthy cause. “The event brands the city and unites people for noble initiatives,” he noted. He shared optimism about the ‘Back to Ooru’ program, which has already attracted two companies within six months, aiming to position Mangaluru as a hub of opportunity and growth.
The third edition of the Mangaluru Beach Festival will take place at Tannirbhavi Beach from January 31 to February 2, 2025, with proceeds supporting a palliative centre for terminally ill cancer patients in Mudipu. Additional festival highlights include a science exhibition, Krishi Mela, Navnari Udyami Expo, and a beachside food festival.
