Mangaluru: The NSS, NCC, YRC, and Eco Club of the College celebrated the 78th Independence Day on August 15, 2024, on the institutional grounds. Mr. Joachim Stany Alvares, President of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, was the chief guest for the day.
Rev. Dr. Michael L. Santhumayor, the Principal, presided over the function. Mr. Melwin Vas, the Principal of the PU Section, and Rev. Fr. Udaya Fernandes, the Principal of the Milagres Central School Section, were present on the dais.
Mr. Joachim Stany Alvares unfurled the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem sung by the gathering. In his message, Mr. Alvares said that the Independence Day we are celebrating today symbolizes the sacrifices and dedication of our elders. Today, we stand as a model for the world, but the path we must tread is still long. Therefore, the youth, particularly today’s students, must actively continue in this direction.
Fr. Michael Santhumayor, in his message, emphasized the importance of unity and the role of youth in shaping the country’s future. He also highlighted that true independence is achieved when all citizens work towards the common good. He wished everyone on the occasion.
Mrs. Anitha Lobo, a lecturer at the Pre-University College, welcomed the gathering. Ms. Reshma K.M., a teacher at MCS, delivered the vote of thanks, and Ms. Tressy Pinto, a lecturer in the Degree section, compered the program.
Following the event, the NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, YRC, and Eco Club members, along with other students and faculty, conducted a cleanliness drive around Hampankatta.
