Mangaluru: Police have arrested a man who had allegedly been absconding for nearly seven years in connection with a theft case registered at Uppinangady Police Station. The accused, identified as Akram alias Boja Akram, a resident of Kasba Bengre in the city, was traced and taken into custody by a police team following an operation conducted on May 22.
Accused wanted in theft case
According to police, the accused was wanted in connection with Crime No. 158/2015 registered under Sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police said the case relates to allegations of theft and housebreaking offences. Authorities stated that after the case was registered, the accused had reportedly failed to appear before the court proceedings and had been evading arrest for several years.
Investigators said the accused remained untraceable for nearly seven years, resulting in prolonged efforts to locate and apprehend him.
Police team traces accused in Panambur
Officials said the accused was traced and arrested in Panambur as part of a police operation conducted by the investigation team.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of Investigation-2 PSI Kaushik BC, along with HC-826 Shivarama Rai and PC-2277 Mahadeva.
According to police sources, the team gathered information regarding the accused’s whereabouts before locating and apprehending him.
Authorities said the arrest marked the conclusion of a prolonged effort to secure the accused in the pending case.
Accused remanded to judicial custody
Following his arrest, the accused was produced before the court.
Police stated that the court subsequently remanded him to judicial custody for further legal proceedings in the case.
The investigation and judicial process are expected to continue in accordance with legal procedures.
Multiple cases reportedly registered against accused
Police further stated that the accused has been linked to other criminal cases registered in the district.
According to officials, three cases are registered against him at Panambur Police Station, while one additional case has been registered at Ullal Police Station.
Authorities did not provide further details regarding the nature of those cases. Police continue to monitor and investigate matters connected to the accused as part of ongoing legal procedures.
