Mangaluru: A surge in admissions and enquiries has hit autonomous colleges and deemed universities across Mangaluru, just days after the PU results were declared. Despite public holidays, these institutions are bustling with students and parents lining up for UG course admissions.
Commerce leads the race, followed by BCA and science programs, say college authorities. Many institutions had initiated provisional admissions soon after PU exams concluded, anticipating high demand.
At St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), nearly 1,500 applications were received even before the official results. “As a deemed university, we enjoy flexibility in launching new-age programs,” said a senior official. New embedded and integrated courses have been rolled out this year in BCom (with Business Analytics, ACCA, and CA), BBA (offering Branding, Advertising, ERP) and science streams. “BCA is particularly popular—we’ve received 1,000 applications for just 400 seats,” the official added, expecting more rush after Kerala and CBSE results.
Similar scenes were reported at Alva’s College, Moodbidri, where BCA and Commerce are seeing record demand. “BCA seats are almost full,” noted Vivek Alva, Managing Trustee. BBA and science follow closely behind.
St Philomena College, Puttur also noted a mild uptick in interest for humanities, while SDM College, Ujire confirmed BCA as their most sought-after course, followed by commerce.
Autonomous colleges plan to begin classes in June. However, Mangalore University-affiliated colleges, still on an older academic cycle, await the green light to start their sessions.
