Mangaluru: The Al-Qaswa Friends Group, a charitable organization, has set up a free Iftar Centre near Rao & Rao Circle, ensuring that labourers and fasting individuals have access to meals during Ramzan. Additionally, the group has introduced a free Sehri meal distribution for family members attending patients in city hospitals.
Imthiyaz BK, a member of the group, stated that this initiative, launched last year, will continue until the end of Ramzan. The centre serves samosas, fruits, juice, and other items for Iftar, while non-vegetarian meals are provided for Sehri upon request. The project is led by President Nazeer Kudroli.
Each evening, around 250 people participate in the Iftar gatherings, with numbers expected to rise to 500-600 in the final week of Ramzan. The location was chosen due to the presence of businesses and industries, where many workers struggle to reach home in time for Iftar. The initiative is open to all communities, fostering harmony and inclusivity.
Unlike other charities, the group does not seek external donations. Instead, members contribute their own funds to support the initiative. They also share contact details on social media, enabling those in hospitals and hostels to request Sehri meals. Volunteers ensure that food reaches those in need promptly.
