Passionate singer and musician Praveen Alva, dedicated to showcasing Tulu culture, founded the band Alva Kuuto in 2022. His vision? To introduce Tulu music to a global audience through contemporary styles while preserving its rich traditions.

A Musical Journey Rooted in Tradition

Previously a solo artist, Praveen had already released six Tulu songs before realizing the need for a dedicated band. Alva Kuuto—comprising Praveen Alva, Abhilash Shet, Anshuman Upadhyaya, and Shashank—is the only band solely focused on Tulu-language music. With both Tuluva and non-Tuluva members, it serves as a bridge between cultures.

Praveen, an architect-turned-musician, discovered his passion for music in 2015. His love for Tulu writing began in his school days, where he penned plays and skits. Through Alva Kuuto, he weaves childhood memories into music, blending storytelling with melodies to create emotionally resonant performances.

Expanding Tulu Music to New Audiences

The band has performed in Bengaluru and Mangaluru, bringing Tulu culture to non-Tuluvas. To enhance audience engagement, they explain each song’s context in English before performing in Tulu.

Praveen has composed 40 songs, with two already released. On March 28, their music video Pagetha Pughe, a rock song with a unique concept, will premiere. Additionally, six new tracks are set to launch on April 11.

With growing demand, Alva Kuuto has applied for international music festivals, aiming to take Tulu music worldwide.
