After 29 years on the run, Bashir Ahmed, accused in a case from Padubidri, was apprehended by the Padubidri police in Valencia, Mangaluru. The incident dates back to January 10, 1995, within Padubidri police station’s jurisdiction, where Sulaiman filed a complaint.
According to the complaint, Sulaiman was confronted by Umar Farooq and his friends, including Bashir Ahmed, who demanded money owed and threatened Sulaiman with death. The Padubidri police responded promptly, apprehended the accused, and registered a case. However, Umar Farooq and Bashir Ahmed absconded after being released on bail, evading court appearances for nearly three decades.
Under the directive of the Udupi district superintendent of police and led by PSI Prasanna M S, the Padubidri police, with the assistance of ASI Rajesh P, HC Rajesh Herga, and PC Sandesh, arrested Bashir Ahmed based on LPC warrants.
Bashir Ahmed was produced before the Udupi court and remanded in judicial custody until July 15. The primary accused, Umar Farooq, passed away in 2020 due to illness, with his death certificate presented to the court.
This arrest underscores the persistence of law enforcement in pursuing long-pending cases and bringing fugitives to justice.
