BANTWAL: An autorickshaw driver from Marnabailu has gone missing after parking his vehicle on the old Panemangalore bridge, sparking fears that he may have jumped into the Netravati River.

Driver identified as Marnabailu resident

The missing person has been identified as Preetham Lobo, an autorickshaw driver. According to police sources, around 8 am on Tuesday, he reportedly parked his battery-operated rickshaw on the bridge and was not seen thereafter.

Police and rescue teams launch search operation

Locals noticed the unattended vehicle and alerted the Bantwal Town Police, who soon arrived at the scene. A team from the Fire and Emergency Services Department also joined the search operations in the Netravati River to trace the missing driver.

“The search is ongoing, and divers have been deployed in the area. We are also verifying CCTV footage from nearby locations,” said a police official.

Rickshaw photo goes viral on social media

A photograph of the parked autorickshaw has gone viral on social media platforms, drawing concern and speculation among local residents. Many have expressed shock and prayed for Preetham’s safe return.

Investigation underway

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether it is a case of suicide or accidental disappearance. The Bantwal Town Police are investigating and have contacted the family to gather more details about the driver’s recent activities and mental condition.
